ACTING CLASSES FOR KIDS & TEENS

SUMMER TERM 2010

The Actor's Workshop is pleased to announce the return of The Children's Workshop.  Back by popular demand, this acting program offers dramatic instruction for youngsters 6-9 years of age.   A class for young people 10-15 has also been added.

All classes include exercises to improve speech and diction, as well as activities to develop concentration, imagination and reading skills.  Other benefits include improved poise and confidence.  Students work with age-appropriate scripts for commercials and scenes. Teen students also work on monologues.

The Actor's Workshop has been teaching classes for children and adults since 1984. The staff consists of professional actors and directors with broad experience in both theatre and film.

Featuring:

  • Small class sizes
  • Nurturing of self-confidence
  • Development of poise and public speaking skills
  • Strengthening of reading skills
  • Improvement of concentration skills
  • Stimulation of imagination

The Actor's Workshop has added a Youth Workshop for young people 10-15. In this class, young people will work on the basics of scene study and character development with age-appropriate material. Each young actor will prepare a monologue and scene for presentation in class.

LETTER TO PARENTS:

FINALLY!  At long last, we're ready to go forward with a summer offering for kids' classes.

Our program will be a four-week workshop designed to produce a demo reel for each student.  What that means is that each young actor will be working on all the main points of our youth program:

  • Voice and speech
  • Imagination and creativity development
  • Audition skills
  • Commercial scripts, monologues and scene study

...PLUS...a 2-3 minute professional-level sample disc of each student performing either a commercial or a monologue.

Class will start a week from today (Saturday, July 24) and run through August 14.  An alternate session will be scheduled for Monday afternoons beginning July 26.  (The Monday afternoon session can be used if a make-up class is needed.)

Classes are divided by age groups as follows:
